No Easy Button

Have you noticed that nothing is ever easy?  As much as I would like to have an easy button, and so would my kids, nothing ever comes without work.   I wish that important and great things were easy, but it doesn’t work that way.  Life comes with options, and doors.  Looking at your options and the doors that open to you are important to review.  The idea is to find out when to take a risk, and when to not walk through the open door.  Sometimes determining that isn’t easy, but it’s worth looking at it.

I often think about what it would be like to win the lottery.  I would give some to charity, some to family, and try to make good choices so that I wouldn’t have to work and I could be closer to my kids.  I would hope it would make things easier, but that might not be the case.  Having the responsibility of money comes with other stress.  At times, winning the lottery ruined people’s lives.  Don’t wish your life away, trying to find the easy way out, or an easy button.

When I started college, I was young and stupid, yes stupid.  I had no idea what was coming, but maybe that’s what I needed to be to make a future for myself.  I still had support from my parents, so it was easy to transition.  I was lucky, and I know that now.  When I finished my degree, I went out into the world, and made lots of mistakes.  I trusted the wrong people, and got hurt, but I also found friends that helped me move forward in to life I have now.

When I went back to school and continued my education, I had more experience and knowledge, but I also believed in myself enough to take that risk.  I took out loans and finished my master’s degree and again went into the world to try my wings.  I worked for a bit, and took another risk.  I left two jobs to relocate across the country.  I moved often when I was growing up, so it didn’t seem so scary.  I left and made a life for myself in another state.   Had I taken the easy path, I never would have left, and my life could be very different, and not in a good way.

Everyone has challenges, good days, bad days, successes and failures.  Life isn’t easy, but that makes the good days, and successes, that much better.  When you work for something, even if it seems so far away, it makes it more satisfying when it happens.   Other people can’t make things easy for you, but if you give people too much ammunition, they can make it harder.  In fact, if you surround yourself with people who are not working, doing drugs, or breaking the law, they can pull you down and ruin your future.  You are worth so much more than that, and with work you can create a future to be proud of.

So do the work, don’t look for the easy button.  If you want a better job, go back to school.  If you want a new career, take a chance and change your profession.  There is a saying, “anything worth doing is worth doing right”.  There is nothing easy about being successful.   Don’t take the easy way, make your own way, and be happy for life!
