Sometimes, beautiful places are all about the details. Sitting in front of a fireplace, with hot cocoa, on a winter evening is amazing, and something to think about in the heat of summer. This fireplace has amazing detail, from with metal work to just the size.

I love to travel, and I often stop to see fireplaces. Some are small, some are big. They can be simple, or large and elaborate. They can be small and functional, but they are all beautiful in their own way. If you think about what a fireplace meant in history, it was a focus for a family. They used it to eat and stay warm, and at times it was the only light in the room.

I have a great respect for tradesman, and wish that more people would take up a trade. Creating beautiful places, like the fireplace above, is an art that we are quickly losing. From the metal workers, to stone masons, trades from time past are few and far between. Trades that were passed down from one master to another. It took patience and skills developed over time to master some trades.

Those trades took a simple house to an amazing home, but the heart of the home was still the hearth. In current times, a fireplace can still be a focus of the home. So next time, take a better look at the fireplace. It can be decorated for the holidays, or filled with pictures of family. It might be an overlooked asset, but it can still be a beautiful addition to a home.

As I think about beautiful places, I think about fireplaces that I have seen over the years. I really do like settling down in front of a fireplace in the colder months. With a blanket and a warm mug of something, maybe even a good book, it can be a wonderful evening. It can be a wonderful part of being happy, for life.
