There is magic all around us.  You can find magic in the faces of your kids and your family.  You can find magic in a simple walk through a garden.  You can find magic in a podcast on a favorite topic, and you can find magic even in positive news stories.  Good things happen every day, but that’s hard to remember sometimes, when our lives are busy or chaotic.  When you look for magic, and find it, remember how it feels.  I have memories of finding magic in little things my kids did while they were growing up.  I have lots of magical memories of visiting amazing places, in my community and around the country.  I also have recently witnessed magic watching neighbors help neighbors after the recent storms that devastated my neighborhood.  There are lots of reasons to find magic in your own life.  Let’s talk about five of them.

1 Finding magic can help with happiness.

When I was a child, I remembered the magic of believing in Santa.  I remember the feeling and believing in the magic, even when I understood how it worked.  We often lose that sense of magic as we get older.  By the time we are adults, life gets in the way, and we are more worried about paying bills than finding the magic in the world around us.  Stopping to think about magic can help us remember what happiness and wonder feels like.

2 Magic can bring our creativity.

So many things around us were created from magical thinking.  Part of magical thinking is knowing that sometimes it can be done, even when people thought it was impossible.  When you have an idea, sometimes magic can bring it to life.  The magic of creativity might help with design, building, and fighting for a dream.  It might result in finding a new way to do something at work that leads to a promotion.  Don’t be boxed in.  Think outside the box and let magic open up your creativity.

3 Magic can help you discover hidden potential.

Thinking of things in different ways can become magical.  I often watch videos of people who take something, from a piece of furniture to a piece of clothing, redesign it and turn it into a new amazing creation.  People have hidden potential too.  You may have talents that you never knew you had.  Magical thinking can lead you to potential life changes, for the better.  Never underestimate your hidden potential.

4 Finding magic can lead to a new sense of wonder.

I am guilty of adultism, taking an event or item and breaking it down to the parts, instead of appreciating something for the magic it creates.  I am often in awe of others and their ability to do amazing things.  People climb mountains, walk across the country, build houses by hand, or help others in ways I had never considered.  Having a renewed sense of wonder helps open your mind to other possible paths and opportunities.

5 Magic can foster imagination.

New things are being designed and created every day.  Fostering imagination and creativity helps us understand that we are not stuck or trapped.  We have options.  Something as simple as changing furniture in your home can give you a new perspective.  Re-imagining things around the house can also provide a new outlook. Imagination can be freeing at home, at work, and in your community.

Whatever the reason, it’s important not to forget the magic around us.  You may have different ideas of what magic means to you, but I would hope that you can still see magic around.  The wonder of magic can be a big part of being happy, for life.
